Message from the Chair

Just like that, the New Year and holiday period is over and it is the start of another new school year. We have a few articles this month on the subject of schooling – when/if to return after an eating disorder has forced an absence, how the school could support a young person experiencing difficulty eating and a link to an interview by a clinic here in New Zealand about moving to University Halls.

Life is not all about school and our last article although a little off-topic still highlights an interesting read: Developing an eating disorder as an adult in a leadership position.

As always, our helpline is open for calls, our knowledgeable and experienced volunteers are ready to support caregivers through any stage of their journey.

Practical Support by schools for pupils with eating disorders

Practical measures schools take to support pupils with an eating disorder

Our first article is aimed at schools and offers great insight into the challenges people recovering from disordered eating may face. Parents and caregivers may find it useful to send through to their young person's school as it offers ideas for what measures schools can put in place and do to help.

Returning to school after eating disorder treatment

Returning to School After Eating Disorder Treatment: Helping Children & Teens Adjust

Our next article highlights a range of questions parents might have with regard to their child returning to school e.g. ‘Is the child ready to return to school?’ ‘Who will support them in school? Who will oversee the child’s nutrition?’ Whilst it is an American article, it might have some ideas that will help parents decide what is best for their child.
